Original Edo era Japanese Woodblock Print
Balloon Ascension in American

Comments - Fantastic Yokohama-e design of a balloon ascension in American. In the center, a large balloon floats upwards to join another in the distance. The street below bustles with activity, with a horse-drawn carriage at right, a woman riding a horse, and a mother holding her son's hand. At left, porters carry a sedan chair, following a man displaying an American flag. The buildings are very ornate, detailed with canopied balconies at left and a turret at right. A fascinating depiction of what the Japanese imaged America to look like.
