Series; Outer Chiyoda Palace (Chiyoda no on-omote)

Observing the Hunt in Koganegahara - Fantastic scene of a shogun's hunt taking place in Koganegahara. The shogun and his court watch the proceedings from a pavilion atop a hill at right, with noblemen watching from lower viewing platforms. Samurai armed with spears are ready on horseback and on foot below in a fenced area, waiting for teams of samurai to drive a stream of animals into the enclosure. Mt. Fuji can be faintly seen on the horizon at left with snow on its sides. A terrific composition with wonderful detail and soft shading.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse at top edge from previous mounting. A few small tears at edge, repaired. Toning, slight soiling, a few creases and small spots, darkening at bottom edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
