Attacking an Entrance Gate, 1894

Comments - Dramatic scene from the Sino-Japanese War of the Japanese attacking an entrance gate outside a Chinese fortress. At left, two soldiers have made their way through a short tunnel to break open the gate, waving their compatriots forward. At left, Chinese begin to retreat as Japanese troops rush after them. A single shot explodes above the walls of the fortress in the distance as lightning zigzags across the sky and rain begins to fall. An action-filled scene with an atmospheric night setting.
