Original Kiyochika (1847 - 1915) Japanese Woodblock Print
Our Forces Occupying Liugong Island, 1895

Comments - Dramatic Kiyochika image from the Sino-Japanese War of Japanese troops celebrating their occupation of Liugong Island. In the center, a soldier raises the Japanese flag above a huge gun on the top of a fortress. The men raise their swords and wave their hats in victory, signaling the ships seen in silhouette at far upper right. In the center, one Japanese soldier stands atop a fallen Chinese soldier lying in the snow. A terrific composition, detailed with fine bokashi shading in the sky, also in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Pinhole in top right corner of each panel, repaired. Slight toning, a few light creases at edges, ink notation in top margin. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
