Series; The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido by Two Brushes
Fording the Sakawa River, Distant View of the Hakone Mountains; Crafts Made at the Yumoto Hot Springs, 1854 - Charming design from the collaborative Hiroshige and Toyokuni III Tokaido Road series, referred to as "The Tokaido by Two Brushes." Hiroshige's tranquil landscape in the background illustrates the river crossing at Odawara, with tiny travelers making their way across the water. In the foreground, Toyokuni III depicts a beauty using the sleeve of her tie-dyed blue and white kimono to dry the side of her face after bathing at the Yumoto Hot Springs. She smiles happily as she looks down at the young girl kneeling beside her, who reaches into a basket filled with traditional crafts, including tops and rattles. Lovely detail in this attractive print.
