Festival in Urasa, 1946 - Handsome depiction of a winter festival in Urasa from the portfolio "Folk Customs of Japan," which featured twelve prints by ten artists. Spectators in hoods are huddled along the sides of the street as men wearing only undergarments parade along on their way to take a purifying dip in a pond at Bishamondo Temple before entering the sanctuary. A fascinating sosaku hanga design recording a festival still celebrated in Urasa today. The first time we've seen this series. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
