Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Sino-Japanese War Battle Scene

Comments - Dramatic scene from the Sino-Japanese war of Chinese troops firing at the oncoming Japanese. Some of the men hide behind a fallen horse as they shoot, the startled animal neighing in fright as a huge explosion fills the sky with yellow and red flames and orange smoke. At left, a Chinese general in an elegant tunic directs his men with his extended sword, smoke billowing across the battlefield. An interesting image with more emphasis on the Chinese than is usually seen in prints from this historic conflict.
