The Mansion of Lord Yoritomo, 1863

Comments - Handsome view of the mansion of Minamoto no Yoritomo, the founder and first shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate. Lord Yoritomo sits on a platform in a room at far right, with retainers and noblemen seated in rows and gathered around the edges of the palace, all looking forward expectantly. The men wear formal court dress and tall black court caps. At right, two attendants carrying in an offering tray and a long-handled sake server, while at top center, other men bring in trays with folded robes as offerings. An interesting subject with wonderful detail in the architectural setting. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Artist - Yoshikata (active circa 1841 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes, repaired. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
