Beauties Sewing, 1890 - Charming triptych of a group of beauties spending the afternoon sewing. A woman at right measures a length of blue gray silk with a ruler, a pair of scissors on the floor before her and a sewing chest nearby. At left, a beauty irons a kimono flat using a brass container filled with hot coals. A kitten with a red ruffled collar perches on the shoulder of the beauty in the center. A wonderful scene with fine detail in the fabrics and household items. An attractive view of upper-class life in old Japan.
