The Renowned Sato Masakiyo - Dramatic depiction of the famous general Sato Masakiyo (the real-life Kato Kiyomasa) and his men in battle. In the center, the bold warrior wheels about on his rearing horse to stab an enemy with his pole arm, his eyes glaring fiercely beneath his horned battle helmet. His victim tumbles from his gray horse, falling to the ground still gripping his sword, his legs kicking in the air. Another warrior falls backwards at right, brandishing a bamboo pole decorated with the severed heads of the enemy, a gruesome battle trophy. The ground is littered with broken arrows and abandoned weapons, with clouds of smoke rising into the night sky, obscuring the additional troops in the background. An incredible samurai subject filled with energy and action, brilliantly capturing the chaos of the battlefield.
