Comments - Fantastic illustration of the Battle of Okehazama in 1560 between the forces of Oda Nobunaga and Imagawa Yoshimoto. Despite being seriously outnumbered, Nobunaga's surprise attack on Yoshimoto's encampment proved victorious. In the center, a warrior on horseback stares at the severed head in his hand, a couple of heads dangling at the side of his horse. Another head lies on the ground nearby, along with a fallen warrior and broken weapons. At right, a samurai at carries a large red paper lantern on a bamboo pole, grinning happily at his companion's gruesome trophy. Another warrior behind him has a head impaled on the end of his spear, while the fellow beside him grimaces, a bloodied cloth bundle tied around his back. The battle continues on a spit of land behind them, with red flames flickering above the combatants and clouds of smoke rising at left. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. An incredible early warrior subject by Yoshitoshi.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. A few small losses and holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
