Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Iwafuji Berating Onoe, 1853

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of the evil lady-in-waiting Iwafuji berating her junior, Onoe. Hoping to discredit Onoe, Iwafuji replaced a valuable statue in the young woman's care with a sandal. Here, she berates the beauty after pretending to discover the sandal, waving it above her head as the meek Onoe cowers on the ground at left. She wears a beautiful burnished black kimono patterned with colorful blossoms and flowing blue water over an embossed white kimono. Fine reed blinds hang across the back of the room. A beautifully detailed illustration from this classic drama, attractively colored.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 19 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. Vertical centerfolds. A few small holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
