The Heroic Fight of Cavalry Scout Captain Asakawa, 1895

Comments - Dramatic battle scene from the Sino-Japanese War of Cavalry Scout Captain Asakawa at Tuchengzi, leading his troops during a thunderstorm. He stands atop a fallen horse in the center as a driving rain slants across the gray landscape, gripping his sword and staring ahead with determination. He is surrounded by fallen Chinese enemies, half buried in the watery mud of the battlefield. At right, a soldier leads a lively horse forward, tugging on its reins. The fight continues in the background at left in shadowy silhouette. A fantastic design, beautifully shaded and detailed. A great choice for a collector interested in this historic conflict, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Artist - Kiyochika (1847 - 1915)

Image Size - 14" x 28" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A couple small holes, repaired. A few creases, faint offsetting. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
