Bando Hikosaburo as Teraoka Heiemon, 1868

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait from an early Yoshitoshi series depicting actors against backgrounds composed of assorted scripts for joruri or ballad dramas, which feature a chanted narrative accompanied by the shamisen. Here, Bando Hikosaburo appears as Teraoka Heiemon, looking suspiciously over his shoulder with a frown, his brows furrowed, while he claps two sandals together before him. He wears a blue kimono over a tie-dyed under robe, a sword tucked at his side. A handsome design from this rarely seen series.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Small thinning spot at edge, repaired. Slight toning, creasing, and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
