The Pride of Tokyo: Three Young People, 1874

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene featuring three young commoners on a bridge at night. Each wears a blue and white cotton kimono with a bold pattern, including fish and a lobsters. Taking a toothpick from his mouth, the fellow in the center looks up with a grin at the barely visible crescent moon, the outline of the city below silhouetted in black against the night sky. The man at right frowns sullenly as he adjusts the dotted towel draped over his shoulder, while the man at left stares up in the opposite direction. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro IX, Nakamura Shikan IV, and Onoe Kikugoro V. A handsome design with large, expressive figures and an attractive blue and black color palette.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 5/8" + top margin as shown
