Ushiwakamaru Training with Tengu Paper Model Set, 1912

Comments - Handsome, complete paper model set featuring a kabuki scene of the young Ushiwakamaru training in the martial arts with tengu under the direction of the elderly Sojobo, the king of the tengu. The future Minamoto no Yoshitsune, the young samurai battles two tengu, winged spirits with bird-like beaks known for their swordsmanship. The set includes a yakko or footman, a beauty, a small country shrine, two stone lanterns, and an extensive background setting of mountains and trees, including a waterfall. There is even a full moon in silvery pigment surrounded by dark clouds. A great design, rare to find complete in three panels.

Artist - Tsunajima Kamekichi (active Meiji era)

Image Size - Each panel 13 5/8" x 9" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small hole at top right of each corner from string binding, typical with paper model prints. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
