Ichikawa Chusha VII as Kiichi Hogen, circa 1925 - 1935

Comments - Fantastic kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Chusha VII as Kiichi Hogen, a brilliant military strategist who is now retired. He stares directly at the viewer with a frown, his eyes steely and rage simmering just below the surface. His white beard flows over his chest and his long hair falls past his shoulders. He wears layers of intricately detailed fabric, the white trim patterned with swirling clouds in gray. One hand rests atop a red cloth, the other hand clasped below. An incredibly intense, expressive image. Beautifully detailed with extensive embossing in the beard, eyebrows, and hair, and a silvery gray mica background.

Sealed - Signed "Shunsen" with red "Shunsen" seal in subject

Artist - Natori Shunsen (1886 - 1960)

Image Size - 14 7/8" x 10" + margins as shown
