Ohama of the Minoya Kakemono, 1867

Comments - Lovely kakemono or vertical diptych portrait of the beauty Ohama of the Minoya. She looks over her shoulder with a rather unhappy expression, pouting slightly, a small cup of sake in her hand. She wears a gray kimono bordered with a yellow cloud-like design patterned with small squares, tied with a blue brocade over. Her hair is pulled back into a smooth bun, adorned with a few simple hairpins, a comb, and a red ribbon. In the distance behind her, a temple is perched atop a rocky hill at left, with wooden pilings lining the water below. An attractive design with fine line work in the hair and eyelashes, and delicate allover cloth embossing in the background. A nice choice for display.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 28 3/4" + 9 1/2" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Two panels, not attached at the seams and lightly toned throughout. Some small holes and areas of thinning in along edges, repaired from reverse. Slight remnants from previous backing along top edge. A couple faint vertical stains with minor spotting and soiling in subject. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
