Comments - Fantastic image of Minamoto Kiso Yoshinaka and his shitenno or four most loyal retainers confronting an enormous snake on Mt. Oku. The giant serpent writhes and coils, tightening its grip around of the samurai trapped in the center. The warrior uses his foot and shoulders for leverage as he inserts his sword into the snake, its mouth open in pain, as a stream of blood flows from the wound. At left, two men come to his aid, raising their own weapons to strike at the monstrous creature. Two more warriors clamber across the rocky cliff side at right, holding flaming torches to light their way. An incredible image, with the rugged setting and rushing waterfalls adding to the drama. A great supernatural subject with terrific detail. A fine subject for a samurai enthusiast.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Thinning and small loss at left edge of left panel, a few small holes. Slight rubbing near edges, a few creases, very slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
