Couple on a Pontoon Bridge, 1856

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a couple on what might be a pontoon bridge or a wooden walkway built out over the water. In the center, the commoner Hanshichi leans forward with a slight frown, tilting his chin up defiantly as he looks at a samurai standing behind grain stacks at right. Hanshichi leads the beauty Ohana by a blue sash held between their hands, the woman looking back over her shoulder with a smile, the edge of her scarf caught between her teeth to keep it from blowing in the evening breeze. Willow branches frame the night sky above. An interesting setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 27 7/8"

Condition - Good detail. A few repairs and light creases.
