Original Nisaburo Ito (1910 - 1988) Japanese Woodblock Print
Autumn Foliage

Nisaburo Ito - Born in Kyoto in 1910, shin-hanga artist Nisaburo Ito created many woodblock prints of flowers, landscapes, and noted shrines and temples around his hometown. Some of his designs reflect his study of nihonga or traditional Japanese painting, while others take on a more modern expression. His floral and nature subjects are beautifully rendered with wonderful color and attention to detail. His attractive prints are a lovely choice to collect or display.

Comments - Colorful view of autumn foliage looking down over the riverside in Kyoto. People relax on platforms along the water's edge, while others pause on the bridge at center left to admire the view. This print was published by Matsuku (or Matsukyu), a company established by artist Tomikichiro Tokuriki after WWII to print his own and other artists' woodblocks. The Matsuku publisher's seal appears in the lower left margin.
