Beauties in an Iris Garden, 1880

Comments - Lovely triptych of beauties enjoying a visit to an iris garden. In the center, a princess stands on the wooden walkway over the water, holding a folding fan and smiling as she looks at one of her companions, who kneels beside a flower arrangement at lower left. The noblewoman is surrounded by ladies-in-waiting wearing elegant outer kimono over white robes tucked into full red pants. Irises blossom in shades of purple, with a few pink flowers and purple and white striped ones among them. Beautiful vibrant color, detailed with embossing on the white kimono. Only the second time we've seen this attractive summer scene.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 28"

Condition - Nice color and detail. Backed with paper. Horizontal wrinkles near top, slight creasing and curling.
