Kawarazaki Gonjuro as Fuwa Banzaemon

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro as the evil Fuwa Banzaemon, who caused the downfall of the samurai Nagoya Sanza by stealing a valuable scroll in Sanza's care. Here, he looks up with an angry frown, his brows furrowed as he uses a sheaf of papers to wipe clean the blade of his sword. He wears a black coat with his trademark pattern of red lightning bolts and swirling clouds, his hair pulled back into a thick topknot tied with a white cord. A handsome design.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice detail and good color. A couple creases at edges.
