Series; Mirror of Famous Generals of Our Country, 1858

Takenouchi no Sukune, 1858 - Terrific portrait of the elderly general Takenouchi no Sukune with a young boy perched on his shoulder. He wears a fine black robe with subtle burnished scroll pattern over patterned pants, and a black court cap. The boy sits quietly on his shoulder, dressed in a pale blue robe, the general's arm wrapped protectively around his legs. Takenouchi no Sukune served five different emperors, including the Empress Jingu during her legendary invasion of Korea. An intriguing image with nice expressive faces.
