Scene from Senzai Soga Genji no Ishizue, 1885

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from the play "Senzai Soga Genji no Ishizue" of a shirabyoshi dancer performing beneath a pine tree. She strikes a pose with a fan in one hand as she flings her sleeve up behind her back, a tall yellow cap tied beneath her chin. At right, two musicians accompany her on flute and hand drum, the drummer watching her with a tightlipped frown. At lower left, another musician plays cymbals while the beauty behind him watches with a sober expression. Nicely detailed with burnished patterns on the black court caps and accents of metallic pigment that have oxidized to a dark tone.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice color and detail. A few light creases at edges and repairs.
