Shimizu no Kanja Yoshitaka, 1856

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of the samurai Shimizu no Kanja Yoshitaka gripping his sword upright with both hands, a worried frown on his face. He wears a striking kimono patterned with dragons clutching sacred jewels over a suit of armor trimmed with fringe. At left, two stone lanterns can be seen behind him, while a torii gate and temple are visible at right. A nice expressive figure.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/4"

Condition - Nice detail. Backed with paper. Stitching holes at side, repaired. Slight curling at sides.
