Nakamura Shikan IV as a Firefighter, 1860

Comments - Terrific kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as a firefighter, wearing a heavy padded jacket and waving a red paper lantern with writing on it. He grimaces as he looks over his shoulder, a blue and white cloth wrapped around his head. A cloud-like border separates the figure from a view of fire brigade standards called matoi in silhouette along the horizon, along with a ladder and a pole arm. A handsome design with fine bokashi shading on the background.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9 3/8" + top margin a shown

Condition - Good detail. Backed with paper. A couple small repairs, light creasing throughout, wrinkling at upper right.
