Ceremony of the Issuance of the Constitution, 1889

Comments - Interesting depiction of the ceremony issuing the Japanese constitution, which was issued in 1889. The Empress Empress watches from behind a cloth covered table at top center, wearing a black dress and a bonnet topped with red feathers, surrounded by ladies-in-waiting who also wear the latest Western fashions. Men in uniforms stand before the women, with other men wearing black suits at lower left. A nice historic subject, detailed with burnishing on the black jackets.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice color and detail. Small repair, fold at corner, a few light creases.
