Scene from Itsumadegusa ukina no kaeuta, 1854 - Intriguing kabuki scene from the play "Itsumadegusa ukina no kaeuta" at the Ichimura Theater of a picture vendor showing his wares to a samurai and two beauties outside a home. He stands at left, holding up a panel with a beauty on it. On the ground behind him, displays attached to a yoke hold other plaques decorated with magic foxes and a horse. In the center, the seated samurai looks at the salesman with a sober frown while the beauty at right seems distraught, the warrior's swords tucked beneath her arm. Blossoming plum trees frame the scene overhead, and yellow butterfly flutters through the sky at left. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Saruzo I as the daughter Oen, Nakamura Fukusuke I as the vendor Fukuyoshi, Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Satsuma Gengobei, and Onoe Baiko IV as Sakuraya Koman. Nicely detailed.
