Series; A Great Competition of Plays

Ichikawa Sadanji as Bansuke Attacking a Beauty, 1876 - Dramatic kabuki scene of Ichikawa Sadanji as the commoner Bansuke attacking a beauty with a large knife, grabbing her by the back as he raises the weapon high in his hand. She smiles slyly at him as she tilts her head down, one hand thrown out to the side, seemingly unafraid. She wears an olive and brown striped kimono over a red under robe with a purple tie-dyed collar, her disheveled hair pulled back with a purple ribbon. The inset above shows a lamp next to a folding screen hiding a bed, a blue sash trailing on the floor nearby. Great expressive faces and bold color in this lively design, detailed with burnishing on the black kimono collar and obi.
