Snow-viewing Party, 1853

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of a Nakamura Shikan I sitting in an elegant interior during a snow-viewing party, holding a blue and white cup of sake. He kneels on a cushion next to a hibachi with glowing red coals, his striped coat trailing onto the floor beside him, a blue scarf wrapped around his neck. The folding screen behind him shows travelers crossing what appears to be an ice-covered river under a dark night sky, the pale blue water dusted with shimmering mica along the center. An attractive subject with a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8"

Condition - Good detail. Light wrinkling throughout.
