The Third National Industrial Exposition, 1890

Comments - Handsome image of the Meiji Emperor and Empress attending the Third National Industrial Exposition at Ueno Park in Tokyo in 1890. The emperor stands at right wearing a military uniform with a sash across the chest and a black cap, dignitaries at his side. The empress stands in the doorway of the royal carriage at left, dressed in the latest Western fashion, including a bustled dress with overskirt and fitted bodice and a bonnet with feathers. In the center, the young prince stands before the entrance gate to the pavilion with crossed flags over the doorway. Strings of red and white lanterns and colorful flags add a festive air. An interesting depiction of this historic event, nicely detailed with burnishing on the black uniforms.

Artist - Nobukazu (1874 - 1944)

Image Size - 13 3/4"x 27 1/4" + margins as shown
