Angry Sumo Wrestler, 1861

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from a play about rival sumo wrestlers. At left, Onigadake Doemon scowls with rage as he raises his sandal above his head, ready to strike his companion, a grave insult. At right, the samurai Takakura Hayato eavesdrops behind a sliding shoji panel, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword. Bando Hikosaburo V appears in both roles. Great expressive figures in a nicely detailed interior setting.

Artist - Kuniaki (1835 - 1888)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 19 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice detail. A few small repairs.
