Confrontation at the Foot of a Bridge, 1867

Comments - Interesting scene of a group of men confronting the young samurai Oda Sanshichiro Nobutaka at the foot of a bridge. Standing in the center, he looks at the men at right with a sober expression, his brows slightly furrowed as one of them thrusts a sword at him. At left, an older man leans back, looking up at the sky with his hands clasped before him. Willow branches from the night sky above. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Kuzo III as a village headman, Kawarazaki Gonjuro I, Arashi Rikan, and Ichikawa Shinnosuke IV. A handsome design with nice large figures, beautifully detailed with a burnished geometric pattern on the black kimono.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 27 3/8"

Condition - Nice color and detail. A couple creases at edges and small repairs.
