Series; How to Master Hauta Songs

Courtesan and Girl in a Garden, 1862 - Attractive scene of a courtesan and a young girl in a garden at night. The beauty looks over her shoulder, a roll of tissues caught between her teeth, while the girl holds her sleeve to her face as if frightened or alarmed. The beauty's kimono is bordered with a stream and trimmed with a reed print, tied with a green brocade obi. The stone lantern at right has a crescent moon opening, and stepping stones lead through the garden to the house at upper right. A handsome design with a nicely detailed setting and a title cartouche in the form of an open book. The "hauta" in the series title is a short traditional Japanese song accompanied by a shamisen.
