Chinzei Hachiro Tametomo, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Great portrait of the famous archer (Minamoto no) Chinzei Hachiro Tametomo, who, according to legend, sank a ship with one arrow. Here, he sits on a rugged rock at the water's edge, looking down with an angry frown as he grips his bow, a quiver of arrows visible above his back. He wears a suit of armor over an elegant brocade robe and pants, and black fur shoes, his long hair falling loosely over his shoulders. A great image of this notable samurai, in an interesting setting with soft shading on the water and ground.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/8"

Condition - Nice detail. A few repairs, slight rubbing and a few creases at edges.
