Daiba Nisaburo Fighting Nozarashi Gosuke

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of two commoners fighting at a temple. In the center, Daiba Nisaburo thrusts his sword at the robber Nozarashi Gosuke, who glares at him angrily as he raises his own weapon above his head with both hands. At left, another man climbs the scaffolding outside the building, holding a red lantern high as he watches the confrontation. The panels of the red temple building are detailed with colorful designs in black lacquer frames, and cherry blossoms frame the blue sky at left. From left, the actors are Bando Kakitsu I, Onoe Kikugoro, and Kataoka Gado III. A great design with a handsome setting, nicely detailed with burnishing on the black kimono collars and black frames.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 5/8"

Condition - Good color and detail. Right panel backed with paper. A couple small repairs, wrinkling at edges.
