Stories of Wise Women and Faithful Wives - Handsome design from a series illustrating famous women in Japan who were known for their loyalty and wisdom. These celebrated beauties are shown in scenes from daily life, with an inset cartouche filled with text detailing their virtues. From peasants and princesses to courtesans and women warriors, these lovely portraits are beautifully detailed and colored. A terrific Kuniyoshi series that is not often seen.

Tora-gozen, circa 1841 - 1842 - Handsome design from a series illustrating famous women in Japan who were known for their loyalty and wisdom, with an inset cartouche filled with text detailing their virtues. Here, Lady Tora loses her hat and a roll of papers in a gust of wind, dropping her walking stick as she reaches for the hat. She uses her other hand to hold her robe closes as it flies around her, the reeds at right bending in the wind. A charming design from a rarely seen Kuniyoshi beauty series.

Condition - Good detail. Diagonal fold at upper left. Small loss at edge, a few repairs, creasing throughout.
