Original Toyokuni I (1769 - 1825) Japanese Woodblock Print
Onoe Kikugoro as Nikki Danjo

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikugoro as the evil magician Nikki Danjo, who transformed himself into a rat to steal a scroll incriminating him in a plot to usurp the young heir to the Date clan. Here, he twists his hands as he casts a spell to return to human form, the scroll clenched between his teeth and a cloud of smoke rising up around him. He wears a blue kamishimo with long pants that trail beneath his feet. A nice expressive figure.

Artist - Toyokuni I (1769 - 1825)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - Good detail. Backed with paper. Horizontal centerfold.
