Ichikawa Danjuro as Asakura Togo

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro in the role of Asakura Togo leaving his family during a snowstorm. A local mayor, he petitioned the shogun directly for tax relief for his town, bypassing the crooked governor Orikoshi Masatomo. Facing execution for this illegal act, he decided to leave his family. Here, he lifts his hat for one last look at his beloved family, staring back with a grim frown as snow falls heavily over the winter landscape. A handsome design.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/8" + margin as shown

Condition - Nice color and good detail. Slight creasing near top center, a couple creases at edges.
