A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

The Four Companions of Minamoto no Yorimitsu, 1868 - Fantastic image of the Shogun Minamoto no Yorimitsu's trusted "Shitenno" or "Four Guardians" during an argument. Also known as Raiko, the shogun sits behind a partially lowered blind in a room at upper right. In the center, a samurai holds a wooden signpost, glaring angrily at the young warrior Sakata no Kintoki at right, who grabs hold of the post. Other men in formal court dress and black caps sit around the edges of the room, watching the confrontation with angry expressions. At left, a retainer removes a suit of armor from a storage chest, another samurai holding the reins of a dappled horse outside the verandah. In the center, Usui Sadamitsu sits behind the standing samurai while Urabe no Suetake appears at right in a lighter blue robe. Nice expressive figures with wonderful detail in the interior setting.
