The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers - Handsome design from Kunikiyo II's 1857 series "The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers" (Chushingura), the classic drama about the 47 ronin. Each print depicts a scene from the famous tale of the 47 ronin, who avenged their master's death. Beginning with the helmet inspection at Hachiman Shrine, and ending with the night attack at Moronao's mansion and the final visit to Lord Hangan's tomb, Kunikiyo II places expressive figures into nicely detailed settings, with a green border featuring the Toshidama seal used by artists of the Utagawa school. A rarely seen series.
