Mansion Overlooking an Iris Garden, 1860

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene taking place in a mansion overlooking an iris garden. At left, a shirabyoshi dancer strikes a pose with a fan in one hand, her sleeve flipped back above her head. She smiles at the nobleman sitting on a cushion in the center, but he stares back at her with a frown. At right, a beauty holds a small figurine of a rooster. Her kimono is shaded from pink to pale green and decorated with pastel colored blossoms. Behind the figures, a wooden plank walkway bordered with flowering irises extends over the water. A nicely detailed design with an attractive setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice detail. A few creases at edges and repairs, diagonal fold in right panel.
