Revenge at Iga Pass, 1856 - Fantastic triptych illustrating "The Igagoye Revenge," also known as "Kazuma's Revenge." The hero, Shizuma, enlists the help of the swordsman Masaemon to avenge his father's death, waiting to attack the murderer Sawari Matagoro as he travels. In the center Masaemon wields two swords, sending his enemies tumbling to the ground and their weapons flying. At lower right, Shizuma falls backwards atop an enemy, thrusting his sword at one of Matagoro's retainers. Along the roadway at upper left, Masaemon fires an arrow from astride a brown horse and a frightened servant runs away before him. A great depiction of the surprise attack, with a handsome landscape setting and expressive figures.
