Scene from Yayoi zakura hisago no makubari, 1860

Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Yayoi zakura hisago no makubari" at the Nakamura Theater of the samurai Hayakawa Takakage thrusting a sword at Saito Naizonosuke, who pays no attention as he looks down with a worried expression. He grips his weapon upright with both hands, wearing a black and tan patterned coat over pants and a helmet with a long cape attached to the back. A small wooden structure and a pine tree frame the evening sky at right, with a boat moored near the shore behind the figures. From left, the actors are Kataoka Nizaemon VIII and Nakamura Fukusuke I. Nice expressive figures.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 19"

Condition - Nice detail. A few creases at edges and repairs. Light diagonal ripple in right panel.
