Beauty and Commoners outside an Entrance Gate, 1865

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a beauty and two commoner outside an entrance gate. The beauty kneels at the foot of the stone steps leading to the door, a winsome smile on her face as she eyes the fellow at right, a sword in his hands. He glares back at her with a tight-lipped frown as he pushes up the sleeve of his plaid kimono. The man at left leans forward as he grips his sword with one hand, ready to spring into action if needed. He wears a blue outer robe over a boldly patterned tie-dyed kimono, the fabric tucked up in back for easier movement. Nice expressive figures in a handsomely detailed setting.

Artist - Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 28 1/2" + margins as shown
