Scene from Tomigaoka koi no Yamabiraki, 1857

Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Tomigaoka koi no Yamabiraki" at the Nakamura Theater featuring from left, Seki Sanjuro III as Demura Shinbei, Kataoka Nizaemon VIII as Tamaya Shinbei, and Iwai Kumesaburo III as the beauty Mikuni Kojoro. She looks up with an eager smile at Demura Shinbei standing at left, a roll of tissues in her outstretched hand. He frowns back at her as he stands beside the garden gate, an umbrella in hand. Below him, Tamaya Shinbei glares up at him as he holds a pair of geta clogs. At top center, a dipper rests across the top of a stone water basin beneath a pine tree. Nice expressive figures in a well detailed setting.
