Scene from Kuruwa Bunsho, 1850

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Onoe Baiko IV as the courtesan Yugiri of the Ogiya in the play "Kuruwa Bunsho" at the Ichimura Theater. She looks down with a slightly worried expression, lost in thought as she holds a pipe. Her outer robe is patterned with fans and swirling currents of water, worn over a red and blue floral print kimono. A shelf at upper right holds food on a black lacquer stand and a hand drum, the sliding panels below decorated with blossoming plum branches. An expressive figure in a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/4" + top margin

Condition - Good detail. Backed with paper.
