Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Otokodate Kazariebi no Kadomatsu, 1859 - Great kabuki portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as the otokodate or street knight Kazariebi no Kadomatsu looking ahead with a sober expression, his brows slightly furrowed as he tucks one hand up his sleeve. His kimono features a striking lobster on the shoulder along with a sacred shimanawa rope and an orange. The title cartouche takes the form of a book at upper right, with a text panel on an open book next to it. Nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and burnishing on the black collar.
