Kagarabi (Flares), Chapter 27 - Terrific kabuki portrait of the actor Bando Shuka as the nun Seigen riding in a ferry, resting one elbow against a wooden crate, lifting her hat above her head as raindrops slant across the gray evening sky. She wears a black robe over a pale blue kimono, a cloth bundle tied across her shoulders, smiling happily with loose wisps of hair framing her face. At center left, a fire basket hangs from a nearby fisherman's boat, the light reflecting on the water below. A lovely design, beautifully drawn with soft shading on the water and sky.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9"
